1) Do not Bid for a project without understanding 100% what the requirement is.
2) If you get the project first thing give in writing what YOU have understood and going to deliver.
3) Keep communicating and updating the status of your project regularly.
4) Give intermediate documentation/results of the projects.
5) If you feel that you need more time, do not ask for it on the last hour, try to look ahead and justify your delay.
